Butz, Hamre Named NSAA Players Of The Week

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (vcsuvikings.com) – Valley City State baseball swept the final edition of the North Star Athletic Association Baseball Players of the Week. Reed Butz was selected as the Pitcher of the Week and Jorun Hamre was chosen as the Player of the Week. North Star Athletic Association Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week Reed Butz – Valley City State (N.D.) – 6’2″ – Junior – pitcher – Rockford, Ill. – Butz tossed eight shutout innings as Valley City State (N.D.) went 4-1 record for the week.  He pitched two shutout innings with two strikeouts, despite a 5-3 extra-innings setback at NCAA Division I North Dakota State.  He followed up with a victory over Presentation (S.D.) after pitching six scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts.  For the week, Butz limited its opponents to .148 batting average (4 hits allowed) and tallied 13 strikeouts.  He did not allow a run.

Vikings Sweep Saints, Earn Third Seed

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (vcsuvikings.com) – Jorun Hamre broke the single-season home run record Sunday as the Valley City State baseball team completed a four-game sweep against Presentation College. Hamre hit his 15th home run of the season in game one, breaking the VCSU record of 14 held by Bryan Swaenepoel (2001) and Stacy Fitterer (1989). Hamre’s blast highlighted a 5-4 victory in game one Sunday. In game two, Reed Butz pitched six shutout innings and the Vikings closed the series with a 10-0 win. VCSU outscored Presentation College 51-17 over the four-game series. Valley City State is now 21-24 overall and finished 14-9 in conference play. Valley City State clinched the No. 3 seed for the NSAA Conference Tournament starting Friday in Valley City. The Vikings will face No. 4 seed Waldorf University in the first round, Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Vikings Get Two Walk Off Wins On Saturday

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (vcsuvikings.com) – Valley City State University won two games in walk-off fashion on Saturday as the Viking baseball team hosted Waldorf University for a rare tripleheader. The Vikings won game one 2-1 on a walk-off two-run double from JT Reed, and then won game three 7-6 after an extra-inning walk-off sacrifice fly by David Demeter. Waldorf won game two by a score of 5-2. With the pair of wins, the Vikings are now 17-23 overall and 10-9 in conference play. Waldorf moves to 19-24 overall and 12-11 in the NSAA. Matthew Suda picked up both wins on the mound for VCSU after making two scoreless relief appearances.

Comets Sweep Vikings In Midweek Doubleheader

Vikings Drop A Pair At U S Bank Stadium

MINNESAPOLIS, MN (vcsuvikings.com) -The Valley City State University baseball team opened its spring season with an indoors doubleheader early Thursday morning at U.S. Bank Stadium. The Vikings dropped both games against Midland University, falling 10-3 in the opener and 2-1 in the finale. VCSU is now 4-7 overall this season. Thursday’s games were their first contests since October. Midland improves to 9-8 overall. The Warriors have now played 15 games in the spring season. Up next: VCSU and Midland will play another doubleheader at U.S. Bank Stadium on Friday at 10 p.m. Midland University 10, VCSU 3 Midland scored five runs in the first inning and five more in the sixth en route to a 10-3 win in the opener.
