VALLEY CITY, N.D. – Mayville State University won the NSAA Baseball Postseason Championship on Monday afternoon, defeating Bellevue University in a winner-take-all title game.
The Comets scored in each of the first five innings as they built a 10-1 lead and coasted to a 16-2 victory. Mayville State earns the conference’s automatic berth to the NAIA Opening Round. Mayville will find out its location and opponent when the national tournament bracket is announced Thursday at 4 p.m.
Bellevue University is a host site for the NAIA Opening Round and will advance as well. The Bruins will also find out their opponent on Thursday afternoon.

VALLEY CITY (vcsuvikings.com)– Mayville State scored five runs in the eighth inning, breaking open a tight game en route to a 10-4 victory over Valley City State on Saturday night.
The Comets led 5-3 before the big eighth inning gave them some breathing room in the winner’s bracket game at the NSAA Baseball Tournament.
Mayville State (33-15) advances to a winner’s bracket semifinal game Sunday at 11 a.m. against top seed Bellevue University. Valley City State (23-25
) will play a loser-out game against No. 5 seed Dickinson State at 2 p.m. Sunday. The winner of Sunday’s 2 p.m. game will play at 5:30 p.m. against the loser of the 11 a.m. game.

Mertz hit a grand slam in the fifth inning and a two-run shot in the eighth inning of the opening game, powering the Vikings to a 10-1 victory. In game two, Mayville State scored five early runs en route to an 8-3 victory.
Valley City State is now 13-18 overall and 6-4 in the North Star Athletic Association. Mayville State, which entered the night with a share of the conference lead, is now 18-9 overall and 7-3 in conference play.
