RPD: Burney couple arrested in Redding parking lot for child endagerment and drug possession

A parking lot outside of the Redding Aquatic Center was the location of a Saturday arrest of a Burney couple for drug possession and child endangerment.

REDDING, Calif. – A drug-related arrest of a couple from Burney resulted in charges for both of them for possession and felony child endangerment on Saturday.
Police said that at approximately 3:00 in the afternoon they were patrolling the parking lot of the Redding Aquatic Center on Quartz Hill Road when they noticed a man who “appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance” was seated in a parked vehicle.

Summer camps have filled up quickly this year and waiting lists are running long as families look for activities to keep kids engaged.
The six summer camps at the Turtle Bay Exploration Park are maxed out, lead educator Katie Weber said. There s a summer camp for various themes from arts, science and forensic science to tech, sports and nature, she said.
Because of COVID, Turtle Bay day camps were split into two cohorts and are actually accepting more kids than in previous years, Weber said. She said she also has noticed a lot more people wanted to get into camp this year as well.

McGeorge died Wednesday after a brief illness, the city of Redding announced Thursday.
In addition to being known as Redding s Mr. Big Mac, McGeorge participated in a number of civic organizations, including the Asphalt Cowboys, Sons of Italy, The Exchange Club, the Redding Chamber of Commerce and the Mercy Advisory Board.
Former city manager Kurt Starman said McGeorge gave him his first job. Dave worked tirelessly to improve Redding, not only during his time as mayor and council member but as an active business leader and community volunteer over the past 50 years, Starman was quoted in a city of Redding news release.
One of them includes renovations to the big pool at the Redding Aquatic Center.
“We also have a number of capital projects on the park s side,” said Kim Niemer, the Director of Community Services and Development Services. “We re pretty excited to be replacing some old playgrounds. Right now, we re doing a big renovation to the small activity pool at the Aquatic Center and this is budget will have funding to replace the big pool and re-plaster it.”
The Community Service Department also set up a pilot communications team. The team handles a lot of outreach through social media and the city s new podcast.
