Former Redding mayor Dave McGeorge dies after brief illness

He was 84. McGeorge died Wednesday after a brief illness, the city of Redding announced Thursday. In addition to being known as Redding s Mr. Big Mac, McGeorge participated in a number of civic organizations, including the Asphalt Cowboys, Sons of Italy, The Exchange Club, the Redding Chamber of Commerce and the Mercy Advisory Board. Former city manager Kurt Starman said McGeorge gave him his first job. Dave worked tirelessly to improve Redding, not only during his time as mayor and council member but as an active business leader and community volunteer over the past 50 years, Starman was quoted in a city of Redding news release.
