Chris Lewis of Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team suffered life-changing injuries after falling 150 metres on February 6. The experienced team member was on his way to assist a camper on Red Screes above Kirkstone Pass. Chris has been in hospital ever since and sadly is likely to remain there for some time. A WOMAN has decided to run a marathon for a mountain rescue team after one of its volunteers sustained life-altering injuries during a mission. Kate Whittenbury, from Windermere, was inspired to raise money for Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team after team member Chris Lewis fell 150 metres from Red Screes earlier this month, after aiding the rescue of two campers who had broken Covid-19 regulations. The 26-year-old will be running the Windermere Marathon in May and has so far raised over £1,000. This morning, almost £740,000 has been raised as part of a fund set up for Mr Lewis, 60, who remains in a âcritical, but stableâ condition at hospital in Preston with a serious, life-changing spinal injury.
As well as the âabsolutely magnificentâ financial support from friends, supporters, and the general public, there have also been offers of assistance ranging from house and car adaptations to holiday opportunities and hydra therapy sessions, said Mike Rippon, Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team leader.
