I love the smell of inevitability in the morning, and an election to Recall Gavin Newsom just became inevitable. The final count of verified signatures by the California Secretary of State:
1.7 million.
Confirmed by the local news.
NEW: The campaign to recall Governor Newsom announces that the California Secretary of State confirmed today that the campaign collected 1,719,943 verified signatures, which is more than 200,000 over the 1.5 million that was required. Goes to the ballot later this year.
And the data geeks.
1,719,943
Opponents hoping to short circuit the recall need to convince 224,234 voters to withdraw their signatures by June 8th, which seems like a tall order.https://t.co/Khb5QWeetDpic.twitter.com/zfitjtWWip
After the announcer says beauty, a parrot quickly interjects, saying pretty boy.
The announcer, describing the 65-year old self-made businessman, accountant, attorney and developer who is worth over $200 million, says, John Cox grew up with nothing – made himself a remarkably success.
Cox is then heard in the commercial, arguing that California’s falling off a cliff. High taxes. Unaffordable costs. Even Elon Musk left.
The ad then cuts to a California grizzly bear – the official state animal – roaring.
Cox charges that Newsom s mismanagement of California is inexcusable. We need big, beastly changes in Sacramento. I ll make them.
The ad ends with the announcer saying, Recall the beauty. Meet the nicest, smartest, beast in California. John Cox as it shows the candidate standing next to a grizzly bear.
John Cox for Governor
One of the Recall Gavin Newsom campaign’s first contenders, businessman John Cox, has literally gone off the deep end in his commitment to be a frontrunner candidate. The milquetoast candidate, who lost to Gavin Newsom by 24 points in 2018, has decided to start a new
strategery with this 2021 campaign, and it involves a complete rebrand.
Cox changed the “Real John H. Cox” on his Twitter page to “Beast John Cox,” and has a California Brown Bear prominently displayed on his header photo.
I. Kid. You. Not.
The re-branding of John Cox into “Beast Mode”
Cox’s website has also been rebranded with the “Beast” and Brown Bear insignia, with the headline:

–Last week, the Secretary of State’s office announced it received 2,162,774 signatures in the recall campaign against Gov. Newsom. Of those, 1,626,042 have been certified as valid moving the effort into the next phase.
“The People of California have done what the politicians thought would be impossible,” said Orrin Heatlie, the lead proponent of the Recall Gavin Newsom campaign and founder of the California Patriot Coalition. “This recall movement to remove Governor Gavin Newsom from office has reached yet another milestone… Our work is just beginning. Now the real campaign is about to commence.”
