Local businesses, small farms encouraged to apply for Appalachia Rises flood relief grants Apr 1, 2021

MOREHEAD, Ky. Appalachia Rises, which launched after this month s historic flooding, announced Wednesday the opening of applications for flood relief grants for local businesses, small farms and non-profits. The opening of the grant application program for these organizations follows $250,000 in emergency grants being given to 500 families in need as they rebuild.
To complete the brief applications, visit AppalachiaRises.org. Eligible local businesses may request up to $5,000 in funding, and small farms may apply for grants of up to $1,500. Local non-profits in need are encouraged to reach out to the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky and Blue Grass Community Foundation, which are administering the grants programs.
This year s judges were Touker Suleyman, owner of Low Profile Group, which owns Ghost, Finery London and Hawes & Curtis, and manufactures for brands including Marks & Spencer.
Jane Shepherdson, chair of MyWardrobe HQ, and former Whistles CEO and brand director at Topshop, and designer Lucy Tammam, founder and creative director of premium sustainable womenswear label House of Tamman.
Childrenswear brand Pippins Denim was declared the winner. Judge Touker Suleyman said the brand s focus on the product made it stand out from the other entrants.
