Provost s Civic Awards: Food bank team named Citizens of the Year

A FOOD bank team who went beyond the call of duty to help those in need during the coronavirus pandemic has won a prestigious award. Old Kilpatrick Food Parcels, which was set up at the height of Covid-19 to ensure vulnerable residents had essential supplies, was named Citizen of the Year at the Provost s Civic Awards. Maureen and Gordon Cummings had the idea to create Old Kilpatrick Food Parcels after volunteering their time to pick up shopping and prescriptions for neighbours when Covid hit. After distributing excess food donated by local shops, the pair felt a local collection and distribution food service for residents who were unable to leave their homes would be a useful addition to supplement existing provision.

Twin Sisters Take On Virtual THON As Dancers For Penn State Greater Allegheny

Riley and Rebecca McAllister have spent their entire lives by each other’s side. Now, they can add another event to that long list of moments they shared: THON. The juniors are taking the (virtual) dance floor representing Penn State Greater Allegheny, the branch campus they transferred into in their freshman year. It was near the end of their freshmen year that they first got involved with THON, though they knew about it well before then. “We’ve always been up to State College since we were little because our aunt and uncle lived up there,” Riley said. “We were excited that once we were able to go to Penn State, we would be a part of [THON].”

HIGHEST ATAR: Victory graduate hasn t stopped smiling

Premium Content Subscriber only Seventeen-year-old Gympie student Abigail McAllister has described feeling overwhelmed with excitement and relief after securing the region s highest ATAR score for 2020. The Victory College student opened her results at 7.30am on Saturday morning, read the rank of 99.7 and said she immediately started crying. I worked so hard this year and it was such a relief to actually hit that goal, Miss McAllister said. My dad was on the couch behind me and mum was still in bed so I went and woke her up. Dad came and hugged me, but mum was still kind of half asleep but said you did it? and she went straight to putting it on Facebook because she was so happy for me.
