welcome back to cnn newsroom. i m jim acosta in washington. new this hour. dramatic new details about the unidentified object shot down by fighter jets just miles off the coast of alaska yesterday. unlike the chinese spy balloon last saturday, this demanded more immediate action yesterday. officials say it was flying much lower at 40,000 feet making it a dangerous potential threat to civilian aircraft. now we are learning u.s. military pilots who approached the craft have given conflicting accounts of what they saw. this new report coming in from cnn national security reporter natasha bertrand. this is interesting. this is kind of unusual that these pilots saw different things and that is sort of, i guess, adding to the mystery of all of this. not even the pilots were able to identify what they saw. just to take you back for a sec. on thursday the u.s. defense officials sent f-35 fighter jets to try to figure out what this object was flying around near alaska. those pilot
welcome back to the cnn newsroom, i m jim acosta in washington on this busy saturday afternoon, and we begin this hour with unsettling new development in the skies over canada. norad says it is monitoring a high altitude airborne object and military aircraft are currently operating in the area from alaska and canada. this follows yesterday s shoot down of another high altitude object, 10 miles off the northeastern coast of alaska near the canadian border. natasha bertrand joins us now. what can you tell us about the latest object? we have to keep underlining and highlighting the point this is not what we were talking about yelled off the coast of alaska. this is a new object that we re talking about. this is a new object that norad has apparently detected over northern canada, and justin trudeau tweeted that he ordered the take down of that unidentified object that he says had sviolated canadian airspac it was a u.s. f-22 that successfully fired at this object. again, we ar
rolodex. he clenched the record for the longest speaker contest in 164 years. this was the scene after four days and 15 rounds of voting. [ cheering and applause ] mccarthy s journey to the speakership was fraught with drama. it got a little intense. it almost came to blows last night. the 14th vote should have been the clencher as mccarthy and allies thought they had the vote in the bag. but matt gaetz thought they had it in the bag. he waited to the end to vote present even though mccarthy needed just one vote to win. mccarthy appeared stunned and walked up to confront gaetz himself. mike rogers appears to suddenly lunge at gaetz and had to be physically restrained by a fellow republican. i spoke to republican congressman tim burchett who was in the area of the incident when it happened. here is what he saw. realized that both sides have some older members and it was getting late, and i suspect most of them had missed the early bird special at the sizzler and they were
