i trust we ll have you back soon. thanks for being here. we are at the top of the hour now. it is 9:00 here on the east coast. 8:00 in uvalde, texas. let s get to several major discrepancies. let s go to morgan who is on the ground in uvalde. morgan? reporter: another tough morning here in uvalde as authorities are shifting what happened and when here inside robb elementary school. this is coming after we heard from parents who were just outside the school saying police were not acting fast enough when those gun shots rang out inside. now as authorities try to provide some clarity with answers, there are only new questions rising about why they didn t engage that gunman fast enough. this morning, growing confusion and outrage about why it took so long to take out that lone gunman. our job is to report the facts and have those answers. we re not there yet. reporter: police now say it took over an hour from the first 911 call to stop the massacre. in that time, 19 child
uvalde, texas, community. there s no details here about the police response at robb elementary. police called and waited for back-up and tactical teams. those teams didn t arrive until an hour later. we re now hearing from the shooter s family. our correspondent spoke to the gunman s grandfather about the tragedy. [speaking foreign language] tragedy. [speaking foreign language the shooter s grandfather sending blessings to the family and facts. he also criticized the gun laws that allowed his grandson at 18 to get a gun. we re also hearing from survivors, including the lengths one little girl went to. she had a friend next to her that she was pretty sure was already dead and laying on the ground bleeding out. she put her hands in her friend s blood and then smeared it, she said, all over her body. she wanted to look like she was dead. she was scared the gunman was going to come back through that adjoining door back to the classroom and she wanted to be able to play dead.
just ten years old killed with her cousin in the same classroom. her father joins me. and canceling the nra, i ll speak to a musician coming up, who just pulled out of a performance at the nra s annual convention which kicks off in just hours. let s go outfront. i m pamela brown in for erin burnett, outfront tonight, confusion and anger as serious questions grow over the police response to the massacre inside rob elementary school in uvalde, texas, today, officials laying out a timeline of the shooting that killed 19 students and two teachers. government entered the school without any resistance and would take an hour before tactical teams arrived and killed the suspect. also a crucial detail from that press conference today was very different than what we were told yesterday and again this morning. there was a brave school district resource officer that approached him, engaged him, and at that time, there was not, gunfire was not exchanged but the subject was able
a killer, we just don t want any part of that. history should not remember this person s name. instead, history should remember, and we all should hear the names of those murdered here, the children and their teacher. they are the ones that matter. amory joe garza matters. she was 10 years old. her dad is going to join us in just a few minutes. he says his daughter was full of life, always telling jokes, always smiling. on social media this monk, he wrote, please don t take a second for granted. hug your family. tell them you love them. i love you, amerie jo, he said. javier lopez matters. he was 10 years old. javier attended a school honor roll ceremony just before he was killed. his mom telling the washington post that he could not wait to go to middle school. that is what he was looking forward to. she says she ll never forget his smile. it would cheer anyone up, she says. ucia garcia matters. he was also 10 years old. his uncle tells us he loved video games and anything
