DTEK, Ukraine’s main private energy company, said on Feb. 13 that one of its thermal power plants was targeted in an overnight Russian attack. The shelling “severely damaged” the plant.
The company does not specify where plants that are hit by strikes are located, presumably to avoid giving up sensitive information about the location of Ukraine's critical infrastructure.
"Defending our economy is one of the crucial ways to win this war. Ukraine has the companies in place to do that, with large-scale, bankable projects. But now we need the capital to execute and this is where we need help from governments and international financial institutions," DTEK CEO Maksym Timchenko said.
Ukraine's Energy Ministry said on Jan. 8 that wide swathes of the country were without power due to winter weather and Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.
Over the past 24 hours, during large-scale bad weather, DTEK power engineers managed to restore power to 218,000 families in Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
