  In 2009, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State asked the then-President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to resign as he could no longer perform his functions. Akeredolu, then President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) repeatedly called on the late President to resign due to his ill health and allow his deputy, Goodluck Jonathan to take over. Yar’Adua and Jonathan were elected as president and vice president in 2007. He frequently fell ill and eventually died in May 2010.

  The first lady of Ondo State, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu and her son, Babajide have kept Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, against his wishes, SaharaReporters learnt on Monday.   SaharaReporters earlier on Monday reported that the ailing governor had been receiving chemotherapy for the treatment of leukaemia (blood cancer).   Sources told SaharaReporters that the medication knocks the governor out for 10 hours each time and that he is barely lucid during the day or at night.

Take-It-Back Movement s Akeredolu; Resume Or Resign Town Hall Meeting, Protests To Rock Akure Saturday Over Ailing Governor s Absence From Duty

A pro-democracy organisation, Take-It-Back Movement will organise a town hall meeting in Akure on Saturday, December 16 to call for Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to resume office or resign. It will also mark the commencement of street protests to call for the resignation of the ailing governor who has not set foot in his state since July 2023.
