MDEC appoints Razif Abdul Aziz Vice President of Investment and Grants Published A - Cyberjaya, 1 April 2021: Continuing its ‘Reinvent’ mission, the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) announced Razif Abdul Aziz as its new Vice President of Investment and Grants. Razif will manage the ongoing and upcoming initiatives to drive investments in Malaysia’s digital economy and to manage grants distribution across all MDEC programmes. He will report to Raymond Siva, Senior Vice President of Investment and Brand, and CMO of MDEC. Of immediate importance, Razif will lead the efforts to strengthen the integrity of the grants framework and institutionalising best practices in the evaluation, disbursement and monitoring of all MDEC-managed grants and its alignment to MDEC’s investment attraction objectives.

Malaysia builds strong investment momentum in digital and tech sector

The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) expects investor confidence to get a boost as Malaysia accelerates its digital economy agenda with the recent announcement of the national digital economy blueprint MyDigital. Based on the Department of Statistics Malaysia report, the digital economy’s contribution to gross domestic product (GDP) for 2019 stood at 19.1% or RM289.2bil. It is projected to hit 20% in 2020. “Amid the Covid-19 pandemic which disrupted foreign direct investment (FDI) globally, we continue to build strong investment momentum in our digital tech industry, ” said MDEC investment and brand senior vice president Raymond Siva. ‘We are working hard to achieve our aspiration to become the Heart of Digital Asean,’ Siva said.

MDEC will be announcing more successful grant recipients in due course. CYBERJAYA: The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) continues to support and empower digital businesses through various initiatives and grants. The agency has, to-date, disbursed some RM2.35mil worth of grants to 47 recipients from the SME and start-ups sectors. These disbursements were made under the Penjana Digital Content Grant (DCG) and DCG 2020 (Budget 2020). The recipients are largely from the digital creative content industry (70%), followed by professional services (21%), education (7%) and other industries (2%). Through MDEC, the government has been actively offering grants to encourage and support innovation, creation of new intellectual property and to accelerate automation and digitalisation of business to positively contribute towards growing Malaysia’s digital economy.

MDEC appoints head of newsroom, brand and strategic partnerships

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 26): Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) announced that it had appointed Dashika Gnaneswaran as senior manager, newsroom. In a statement today, the corporation said she will support the Brand and Strategic Partnerships Department under the Digital Investments Division in bringing local and international experience through driving strategic communications and building brands in areas such as public affairs, social impact projects, crisis communications and social media strategy. MDEC’s chief executive officer Surina Shukri said, “As part of MDEC’s ‘Reinvent’, a strategic change management exercise that was recently launched to inculcate a high-performing and high-impact organisation, the agency continues to build capabilities internally while identifying the right skills for managerial roles, to ensure optimal performance of our departments.”
