CLEVELAND, Ohio Had it not been for the pandemic, theatergoers in Northeast Ohio might be talking about that performance of “The Cher Show” they just saw at Playhouse Square, or making plans to see the Great Lakes Theater’s production of “Agatha Christie’s Black Coffee” at the Hanna this weekend.
Instead, theatres across the region remain dark for the 49th consecutive week. But there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) s Executive Artistic Director Raymond Bobgan is proud has announced the selection of four Northeast Ohio-based artists as 2020/2021 Premiere Fellows, made possible by dedicated funding from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture (CAC).
The purpose of the Premiere Fellowship is to celebrate, reward, and support artists who have demonstrated excellence in and are committed to new play development. CPT defines excellence as artists creating transformative and impactful experiences for their intended communities. The award is for theatre artists from multiple disciplines, including acting, directing, choreography, scriptwriting, devising playwrighting, design, and stage management. “Jazz is social music,” says Jerome Sabbagh. “Playing music with people, interacting, having a musical conversation, so to speak, and doing that in front of an audience – that’s what gives this music its meaning.”
It has been a difficult year for Sabbagh. Like millions of other musicians, theatre actors, comedians, dancers and live performers of all kinds, the jazz saxophonist and composer has had gigs cancelled as live venues all over the world have closed.

CLEVELAND, Ohio While Cleveland Public Theatre waits for live, in-person shows to resume, the company has put together a winter season of continuing and new virtual performances for the winter.
The lineup will allow CPT, the winner of the National Theatre Conference’s 2020 Outstanding Theatre Award, to fulfill its mission of “raising consciousness and nurturing compassion through theatre that is daring, relevant, and socially conscious” amid the ongoing pandemic, the Gordon Square-based theatre said in a press release.
