911 coordinator says call volume average in 2020 | News, Sports, Jobs

Staff Writer LISBON The number of 911 calls in Columbiana County remained average in 2020 but decreased in the usual busiest months in previous years. Brian Rutledge, the county Emergency Management Agency deputy director and 911 coordinator, said the number of 911 calls dropped in the months of July, August, November and December. Those same months saw the highest number of calls in both 2018 and 2019. Rutledge said during Thursday’s 911 Emergency Service Committee meeting he isn’t sure why there was a drop during those months but assumes it is due to the pandemic. In total, agencies in Columbiana County received 22,672 calls in 2020. Members of the committee praised dispatchers throughout the county for how well they have communicated with first responders during the pandemic. 911 officials receive information from the health department about COVID-19 infected county residents and a “health alert” is added in the system’s address database for the residence. FCC reduces proposed Amateur Radio Application Fee to $35

QRZ Callsign Search FCC reduces proposed Amateur Radio Application Fee to $35 The FCC has agreed with ARRL and other commenters that its proposed $50 fee for certain amateur radio applications was too high to account for the minimal staff involvement in these applications. In a Report and Order (R&O), released on December 29, the FCC scaled back to $35 the fee for a new license application, a special temporary authority (STA) request, a rule waiver request, a license renewal application, and a vanity call sign application. All fees are per application. There will be no fee for administrative updates, such as a change of mailing or email address.

As 2020 comes to a thankful close, so does my 22 years of public service in this incredible crucible of democracy — the U.S. House. I thank my wife, Mylene, and son, Anthony, for always supporting me during my three decades of state and federal service. I will never fully understand all they sacrificed so I could fulfill my duty in office, but I know it was a lot. I also want to thank my terrific staff over the years, and especially those who helped me build and lead such successful organizations, including my personal office chiefs of staff Brian MacDonald and Lorissa Bounds; my executive directors at the NRCC, Liesl Hickey and Rob Simms; and my staff directors at the Energy and Commerce Committee, the late Ray Baum, Mike Bloomquist and Ryan Long.
