911 coordinator says call volume average in 2020 | News, Sports, Jobs

Staff Writer LISBON The number of 911 calls in Columbiana County remained average in 2020 but decreased in the usual busiest months in previous years. Brian Rutledge, the county Emergency Management Agency deputy director and 911 coordinator, said the number of 911 calls dropped in the months of July, August, November and December. Those same months saw the highest number of calls in both 2018 and 2019. Rutledge said during Thursday’s 911 Emergency Service Committee meeting he isn’t sure why there was a drop during those months but assumes it is due to the pandemic. In total, agencies in Columbiana County received 22,672 calls in 2020. Members of the committee praised dispatchers throughout the county for how well they have communicated with first responders during the pandemic. 911 officials receive information from the health department about COVID-19 infected county residents and a “health alert” is added in the system’s address database for the residence. In a Report and Order (R&O), released on December 29, the FCC scaled back to $35 the fee for a new license application, a special temporary authority (STA) request, a rule waiver request, a license renewal application, and a vanity call sign application. All fees are per application. There will be no fee for administrative updates, such as a change of mailing or email address.
