surrounding the new jersey governor and a possible run for the white house. how many times does a guy have to say no before it sinks in? you folks are an incredible disappointment as an audience. the fact that that took to second question. shows you people are off your game. that is not american exceptionalism. jim acosta, hopeful supporters still only heard one thing, he didn t say no. any reason to believe that he s reconsidering now? yeah, the buzz is exceptional, kyra. yes, there is reason to think that he is reconsidering for a governor who is known for his new jersey brand of straight talk. chris christie never really came out and said last night whether or not he s running for president. unlike what he has done in the past. he sounded very much like a candidate in a speech at the reagan presidential library out in california. the new jersey governor accused the president of dividing the country in order to win re-election. he took a settled dig at rick perry when
a distant second is rick perry, who spent a lot of time down there in florida, and pundits thought he would be the one to win that straw poll result. the other one that came out this weekend, michigan, and mitt romney is at the top. no surprise here. listen, romney was born in michigan. his father a former governor there. very popular. romney won the primary there back in 2008. he was expected to win. but perry did go up to michigan and campaign and he was a distant second. for perry, i think a lot of people are saying that those uneven debate performances, especially last week and the attacks on rick perry over his stance on illegal immigration, may be taking a toll. one other thing from the debates or from the straw polls, michele bachmann nowhere to be seen near the top. remember she won the straw poll in iowa in august. but she finished very low down in both of these straw polls. one thing about those, they are important. they are a gauge or a test or a barometer of a cam

they also met. what s also interesting, kyra, rick perry met with three of donald trump s children. you know, i spoke to michael cohen who is trump s top political adviser. i just got off the phone with him and cohen said he spent some time with perry, as well. they talked about the economy and jobs and talked about family. all topics we would expect to come up during the conversation with donald trump. what is the take away from trump? cohen tells me that trump likes him as an individual and also likes what perry has done in texas, as far as creating jobs and also to make it a pro-business state. but donald trump is not ready to make any endorsements yet. as i said, mitt romney will be in new york in a couple weeks to meet with donald trump. kyra? he hasn t ruled out his own presidential bid, right? no, he is leaving that on the table. donald trump, if he endorses in this presidential election and that person gets the nomination and, of course, he says he won t run. but
thanks so much. just hours from now, eight presidential candidates will square off in tampa, florida. rick perry the front-runner and also the main target of his fellow republicans. and perry may have made the bull s-eye even bigger by attacking social security, a program considered sacred by millions of older americans. jim accosta is in tampa. and let s begin with word of a new endorsement we re hearing about this morning. reporter: that s right. if mitt romney was looking for a spark to help his campaign, he may have gotten it this morning. former minnesota governor tim pawlenty has announced that he is getting behind the former massachusetts governor. so that is good news for mitt romney. but this debate comes this evening, kyra, as a new cnn/orc poll shows that there is a big lead for rick perry. the race is basically boiling down to rick perry and whoever can keep up. texas governor rick perry has ditched his cowboy boots for his running shoes, staying far ahead of th
