RAPID CITY, S.D. On Monday night, the Rapid City Common Council voted to return to the committee format effective September 14.
On Wednesday, July 28, the council had a lengthy discussion on whether to move away from the current working session, as the format can go on too long for members with full time jobs.
Public Works Committee meetings will be held on Tuesdays prior to Council meetings while Legal and Finance Committee meetings will be conducted on Wednesdays before council sessions. Both meetings will be held at 12:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.
The working session format was approved by the Council on a trial basis last fall in an effort to promote more efficient discussion and dialogue between Council members and City department staff.

RAPID CITY, S.D. The Rapid City Common Council had a lengthy discussion during Wednesday’s working session on whether to return to a committee format.
There’s talk of going back to committee meetings and moving away from the working session, namely the Public Works, and Legal and Finance Committees.
The idea is to allow city directors to inform council members about their items before taking them to the full council. The new format is informal and only allows for discussion on the items with no recommendations of actions taken during the session until council meets.
