donald trump. it s a device that works up to a point. i m sad to say it can lead to the diminishment of democracy if not its death. the president bringing up the first comments he made when he announced his candidacy. it makes sense feeling he s like his own best add visor and will do things his way. the campaign he did things his way. i think that s what s going on. he spent a year being bridled by people who told him what he can t do. his basic view is i m here because i followed my own instingtss and i m going to do whatever i want to do. i m not going to be fold whtold can t do. he s going to the things he thinks help get him here. you re tarring an entire people on this rape issue and the
topics in the past, which people tend to equate with abortion has gotten them into political peril. making democrats defend late late term abortion is probably a winning issue if you look at the polls. obviously 60% a strong majority. but, it takes someone who is swift to avoid the topic of rape. as you know, when there was a march for life this year the house got into a huge interconference republican on republican tussle over this because legislation was going that wouldn t only permit abortions for reported rapes. rapes reported to the police and a bunch of so-called moderate members made the leadership pull this. the legislation post 20 weeks. right. because they were so concerned about the political peril of the rape issue. so it s when they talk about rape i think, that it becomes politically peril. it s not when they are talking about late term abortion. when debbie wasserman schultz says i support
wisconsin state legislature poised to pass a trio of republican bills on abortion. considering the backlash that todd akin saw last year, why do you think the republicans are choosing to go down this road again. well, first of all good morning, thomas. secondly, i think there s just a best of ideolgues in congress. they think woman should have no choice and they want to control what s happening to women s bodies. they will say almost anything. they will put misinformation out in order to put their bills forward. representative franks delayed blame at the door step of your own party. take a listen to this. the reality is it s not republicans talking about this it s democrats that keep forcing the rape issue into this debate. they ve done it ever since roe v. wade. democrats are forcing this issue, this rape issue into the debate of abortion. how do you respond to that?
nra i mean, they i think internally they think we re going to do better. people are scared that the president is going to come in with his swat teams and take guns away and may raise a lot of funds from it, and, unfortunately, money does confer some amount of power in terms of the national dialogue. i think in terms of the national dialogue, it had become so sclerotic. there was no opposition against the nra. organizing for action reminds me of the way the obama campaign, via vi the republican party, that dynamic where they cut out the middle man and emphasize direct engagement. they re still really entrenched powers. when you mention this state legislation situation, you suddenly find out what kind of world the nra and its supporters are envisioning, and that is this hobsian world where more guns for school teachers. my least favorite manifestation of this is more guns for rape victims because republicans and the nra need to show their concern for women. they ve done so good o
