Community members from around Santa Cruz County and Monterey Bay flocked to Downtown Santa Cruz on a sunny Saturday afternoon to celebrate Earth Day and learn about environmental stewardship and sustainability, all while having some fun in the process.
"The Sentinel has been engaged in a communitywide project to identify and honor heroes within our county people engaged in the kind of service that often goes unnoticed or unreported in the media," the Editorial Board writes. "As we conclude what will be the first such project with the announcement today of Mary Gaukel Forster as our first designated Santa Cruz County Hero, we plan to invite new nominations for another round, which we’ll announce more specifically in the near future."
For creating an online hub for environmental organizations, news and volunteer opportunities, Andy Carman, founder of Environteers was selected as a finalist in the Sentinel’s Santa Cruz County Heroes project.
