Ventura, California: Affordable Farmworker Housing Designed for Sustainability and Climate Resiliency

Opened in 2019, Rancho Verde provides 24 units of affordable housing for farmworkers in Ventura County, California. The county’s agriculture industry is the 11th largest in the nation, as measured by crop value. Yet the industry’s low- and extremely low-income farmworkers struggle to afford the high cost of housing in the area, and many end up living in substandard units.
