The Punjab and Haryana High Court has raised questions over repeated paroles granted to Dera Sacha Sauda chief, Gurmeet Ram Rahim, a rape convict who is supposed to be serving 20 years in prison.
The parole was given on the basis of his “good conduct” in jail and his “contribution to social welfare activities”. He will be staying in his sect’s Dera in Bagphat in Uttar Pradesh.
Earlier, Ram Rahim walked out on parole in November. Ram Rahim was also granted parole in January, which was his fourth from Sunaria jail in Haryana’s Rohtak district. At that time, he was out for 40 days and spent his parole at his dera in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district., India News, Times Now
This is the third time that the the Dera Sacha Sauda chief has been granted parole/furlough this year. Ram Rahim had earlier been granted parole in January this year for 40 days followed followed by three weeks furlough in February.
