A 24-year old Dalit labourer and trade union activist from Punjab has been behind bars since January 12. The 24-year old trade union activist Nodeep Kaur was arrested when she joined a labourers protest at Kundli in Haryana. The activist has been in custody since nearly a month without bail.
Navdeep Kaur, also known as Nodeep Kaur, is a 23-year-old Dalit activist. She was held on January 12 after a demonstration in front of metal-cutting firm Sharan Elecmech in Haryana’s Kundli Industrial Area.

New Delhi: Until December 2020, Nodeep Kaur, a 24-year-old from Punjab, worked at a firm in the Kundli Industrial Area (KIA) in Sonepat, which lies just about 3 kilometres from the Singhu Delhi-Haryana border.
Since her arrest on 12 January, the young Dalit labourer has become the face of a labour rights campaign that has run parallel to the farmers’ protest.

Her sister Rajveer Kaur, who visited her at the Karnal jail said that Nodeep has been brutally assaulted in custody by male police officers and has injuries on her private parts.

Dalit woman and labour rights activist Nodeep Kaur was arrested by Haryana Police from the Singhu Border protest site on January 12, two weeks before the Republic Day tractor rally. Her sister Rajveer Kaur, who visited her at the Karnal jail said that Nodeep has been brutally assaulted in custody by male police officers and has injuries on her private parts. Their family lawyer said that the medical reports confirmed the same.
