The Newton School Committee decided against admitting out-of-district students to its elementary schools through the state’s school choice program, citing a lack of public support in the aftermath of this year’s teacher strike.
Superintendent Anna Nolin assured the committee that students will not be penalized for absences during the previously scheduled break given the short notice.
The committee has not yet voted on the last day of school and is considering several additional options to offset the days that have been missed as a result of the strike.
