BENGALURU: To prevent further Covid-19 outbreaks and the spread of the SARS-CoV2 virus, the state health and family welfare department has decided to deploy marshals in wedding halls and other such places where crowds gather to ensure Covid-appropriate behaviour is followed. K Sudhakar, health minister, told reporters on Monday that many people attending large gatherings have been violating health protocols like social distancing and use of masks. “I myself attended a few weddings in the recent past and people there requested me to remove my face mask. How can I do that when cases are mounting in the city,” Sudhakar asked.

As per a report in The Times of India, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) marshals collected a total fine of Rs 4.2 crore in the month of October, November and December. In the first 28 days of January 2021, they have only collected Rs 82 lakhs. Speaking to TOI, Colonel Rajbhir Singh, the head of BBMP’s team of marshals, said that they are not keen on collecting fines from people.
