With 672 active Covid-19 cases in the state, the Karnataka government has advised the elderly, those with comorbidities, pregnant women and lactating mothers to take precautionary measures.
Till Wednesday, India's active Covid tally stood at 4,565. Of these, the highest number of cases was in Kerala (1,712), followed by Karnataka (1,245), Maharashtra (731), Tamil Nadu (181), and Andhra Pradesh (119).
Dr Soumya Swaminathan warns that the JN.1 Covid-19 variant is more transmissible and infectious than other variants. However, she assures that the public health risk is still low due to immunity from vaccines and past infections.
The government of Karnataka has mandated a seven-day home isolation period for individuals testing positive for Covid-19. Symptomatic primary contacts will also be tested. The state plans to conduct 5,000 daily Covid tests and provide seven days of leave to employees in home isolation. Healthcare workers will be administered flu vaccines and individuals with comorbidities will be prioritized for Covid vaccination.
