The vaccination on wheels initiative was launched by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation on Thursday in cooperation with the Health and Transport departments of the West Bengal government.

KOLKATA: Encouraged by the response and its potential to attract more tourists, West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC) plans to include former European settlements like the Dutch at Chinsurah and Portugese in Bandel in its European Settlements Boat Ride (ESBR) along the Hooghly. However, to cover the entire stretch it may add a few more hours to the trip or use a faster vessel to reduce the journey time.
Ambassador of Denmark to India, Freddy Svane took the ride on Sunday. Svane was surprised to see a packed vessel with enthusiastic riders eager to explore Danish and French history along the Hooghly. “European Settlements Boat Ride is a fantastic initiative. It is a part of the revitalization of the great history of Kolkata and West Bengal. It may be seen as a great step to re-look at European history in India,” said Svane.

Visitors can enjoy the river while browsing through books in the library, which has been curated by Oxford Bookstores.
The cost of a two-hour trip is Rs 50 for kids and Rs 100 for adults. “We are planning longer trips on the weekends,” said a transport department official. “We have named this the Boat Library. Kolkata, Jan 27 : The Kolkata Young Readers Boat Library, the first such here to give access to children across age groups and segments to pick and read their favourite book while floating on the beautiful Hoogly river, has been launched by the West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC) and the Apeejay Anand Children s Library.
The beautiful library, decorated with attractive artworks of children and housing books across genres for young readers adorning its shelves will encourage and inspire children to read and experience the joy of reading.
Calcutta is set to have colour-coded tram routes, like the Granton tram network of Edinburgh, from February.
“The colours to be assigned to the various routes include pink, red, yellow, violet, blue and green. The scheme will be launched in February,” said an official of the West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC).
According to the plan, trams with pink stripes will run on routes 24 and 29, between Tollygunge and Ballygunge station via Tollygunge Club, Lake Market and Hindustan Park.
Trams with yellow stripes will connect Gairahat with Esplanade via Ice Skating Rink, Quest Mall, Nonapukur, Ripon Street, Wellington crossing and Chandni Chowk.
