Setalvad filed an application before the Ahmedabad Sessions Court last month, seeking that the proceedings in this case against her be dropped. The Sessions Court earlier last month rejected the application for discharge by former DGP RB Sreekumar, Setalvad's co-accused in the case.
Setalvad is facing charges of fabrication of evidence and criminal conspiracy for allegedly implicating former Gujarat Chief Minister and current Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his council of ministers, and bureaucrats in the 2002 Gujarat riots.
The Supreme Court-appointed SIT had investigated the case, in which former minister Maya Kodnani, former Bajrang Dal leader Babu Bajrangi and former VHP leader Jaydeep Patel among others had been accused, as part of the nine major riot cases of 2002 that were being monitored by it.
