week long rains are expected to be seen over many parts of South India. In fact, in addition to the five subdivisions that come under the Northeast Monsoon regime, the upcoming rains will also extend to Telangana and North Interior Karnataka. Simultaneously, it may give some rains over Goa and Mumbai as well.
A low pressure area is marked over southwest Bay of Bengal, off Tamil Nadu coast. Also, a trough is extending from this system up to North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Heavy rainfall is expected over Tamil Nadu and Coastal Andhra Pradesh between 29th Oct and 31st Oct.
These rains will be more confined to southern parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and northern parts of Tamil Nadu, which includes Chennai, Kanchipuram, Nellore, Ongole, Kavali, Machilipatnam right upto Puducherry. Other parts of the states will also see some rainfall activities.
Courtesy cyclonic circulation over southwest BoB and another one over southeast BoB, conditions are becoming favorable for active opening phase of the season. Moderate rains with isolated heavy falls are likely for Tamil Nadu and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh till 30thOctober. Thereafter, rainfall will increase, both in terms of intensity and spread.
Rain and thunder shower activities are going on over many parts of Tamil Nadu, South India Karnataka, and parts of Kerala during after two to three days. With the setting up of Northeast monsoon, rain activities may intensify further over Tamil Nadu. Coastal Andhra Pradesh may also start receiving moderate to heavy showers.
