Synopsis
While mucormycosis affects sinuses, aspergillosis affects the lungs of a patient. It is not as severe a disease as mucormycosis, which requires debulking surgeries (surgical removal of affected tissue including in eye).

After mucormycosis or black fungus, another fungal infection, aspergillosis or green fungus is emerging as a post-Covid complication in patients across the country.
Hospitals across states are increasingly reporting aspergillosis in patients who have recently recovered from long Covid-19 infection and have low immunity and comorbidities like diabetes.
“Patients who have recovered from long Covid are reporting back with breathlessness and high-grade fever, which is not going even with regular antibiotic treatment,” said Vivek Nangia, principal director (pulmonology) at Max Hospital Saket. “It is usually occurring in patients with diabetes and low immunity.”
