PESHAWAR: Tehreek-e-Istiqlal President Rahmat Khan Wardag on has asked the government to construct new dams in order to overcome the power crisis and create jobs.
Addressing a gathering of party workers here, he said that water level was falling in the reservoirs, which had caused serious problems for the inhabitants in many areas. He maintained that the industrial sector was also facing problems due to the power crisis.
Pakistan was facing shortage of water to irrigate agricultural lands, he said, adding, the requirement could be fulfilled by constructing new reservoirs. Rahmat Khan said the water and power crisis would worsen during the next four years if timely steps were not taken. “We should learn from China and India which have focused on meeting their water requirements through new dams,” he said.
