New Delhi: The interrogation of a staffer of charity organisation Khalsa Aid International (‘Khalsa Aid”) by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with activities of banned extremist group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) and the subsequent nomination of the organisation for Nobel Peace Prize has puzzled and mystified the country.
However, security agencies believe that the organisation acts as a front of the prescribed outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and helps it in financing terror. A case registered by the NIA in August 2012 claimed the same.
Though Khalsa Aid International and its CEO Ravinder Singh also known as Ravi Singh have been openly supporting Khalistani extremism, official documents of Khalsa Aid represent an interesting picture. A sixth man is about to be charged with the alleged attempted murder of Indian radio host Harnek Singh in Wattle Downs.
Friends of Singh, 53, have said the December 23 attack in the driveway of his Glenross Drive home was religiously motivated.
Singh is part of the team at Radio Virsa, which discusses religious and cultural issues in the Auckland Sikh community.

Police have made a sixth arrest this afternoon in relation to the Wattle Downs assault incident on December 23, 2020.
A man, aged 26, is currently in custody and will also be charged with Attempted Murder as previously arrested five men.
He is expected to appear in the Manukau District Court tomorrow.
Earlier this morning, Counties Manukau Police had carried out warrants at multiple addresses in Flat Bush and Papatoetoe and arrested five men for the attempted murder of controversial radio host Harnek Singh.
“The five men are aged between 24 and 39, were arrested, charged and appeared at the Manukau District Court on Thursday afternoon,” investigating officer Detective Inspector Chris Barry from Counties Manukau Police said.
