EVEREST CHALLENGE REVEREND Craig Bentley has raised £6,500 through the St Mark’s Church’s Mount Everest challenge. Rev Bentley has raised thousands of pounds through an online JustGiving page by ascending the Church s tower 500 times. A curate at St Mark’s in Natland, and a former RAF police dog handler, Rev Bentley took on the challenge to support the work of the church and the International Nepal Fellowship. CRAZY: Reverend Craig Bentley completes the Natland Mount Everest challenge His two previous attempts were temporarily blocked by the lockdown, but the challenge finally went ahead on April 25. During the climb he has been interviewed live on Radio Cumbria breakfast and had a five-minute piece on Border evening local news show.
Young musicians and tech-savvy teenagers have been showcasing their talents at The Gather. Upstairs@TheGather in Ennerdale, the Arts Council designated small music venue, has been live streaming music events during lockdown - and more young volunteers are needed to help with the project. In a recent Radio Cumbria broadcast, Helen Millican interviewed four young people, including Hannah Rumney from Ennerdale, a saxophonist, who had no previous experience with the technology of streaming. However she volunteered to help at The Gather as it prepared to put on live gigs and then stream music to people s homes. She became proficient in setting up the performance area with staging, lighting, sound and film equipment and learned how to relay sound and pictures through their dedicated YouTube Channel and out onto the internet.
A FARMING prodigy has caught the eye of BBC TV producers with her diaries of agricultural life. Katie, 14, who lives at Dufton near Appleby has been making a diary of her life on the farm for BBC Radio Cumbria and due to their viral popularity, she has turned the head of popular evening TV show, Countryfile. She has been immersed in farming life since her family moved to the county in 2011. Growing up in an agricultural setting, Katie is now able to carry out lambing on her own. Countryfile will give Katie, and sheepdog Gem their 15 minutes of fame on Sunday night.
