Poor quality of air is resulting in 2-3-fold rise in respiratory distress cases in civic and pvt-run hospitals and clinics; construction activity and vehicular pollution equal contributors
Considering the surge of cases, doctors have urged citizens to visit the nearest hospital or clinic for consultation if they have any symptoms related to respiratory illnesses
As per the statistics handed by the BMC, 20,327 heart conditions and attacks were reported in 2017 which increased to 25,378 cases in 2020 (the first time of epidemic), which means a nearly 25 per cent rise in figures.
As per the data, the city had recorded 11,343 cases in July, which increased to 19,846 in August. Similarly, the number of deaths rose from 39 to 47 during the same period.
