As per the statistics handed by the BMC, 20,327 heart conditions and attacks were reported in 2017 which increased to 25,378 cases in 2020 (the first time of epidemic), which means a nearly 25 per cent rise in figures.
There has been a surge in the people being admitted to the Covid Intensive Care Unit (ICU) across the city in the last 12 days. According to the dashboard, 53 patients were admitted to ICU until June 7 which has now increased to 131 patients until June 19, which means almost 1.5 times rise in hospitalisation.
98 people succumbed to heart attack every day in the first six months of 2021. In comparison, 15 people died due to heart ailments every day in the corresponding period in 2020.
