President johnson signed the Voting Rights act of 1965 into law 52 years ago this month on august 6, 1965. It is widely considered to be one of the most significant and successful pieces of civil rights legislation ever enacted and has been used to combat varied Voter Suppression tactics, particularly targeting communities of color and limited englishproficient voters. I am especially proud to highlight the commissions role in the creation of that land mark legislation.
