Shahadat Hossain, a journalist for the Bengali language daily newspaper, Prothom Alo, was attacked on June 1 while reporting on a protest in Brahmanbaria railway station demanding the reopening of the railway. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) condemns the attack against Hossain.

Policemen armed with light machine gun (LMG) have been deployed there and security posts were set up with sandbags at police stations and outposts at six police stations and six outposts of Sylhet Metropolitan Police and nine police station of Brahmmanbaria to avoid any untoward incident by the militants.

File photo Star Online Report Star Online Report A case has been filed against Nurul Haque Nur, former vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students Union (Ducsu), with a Brahmanbaria court for making derogatory remarks on the government and several government institutions during a Facebook live session. Brahmanbaria District Chhatra League President Rabiul Hossain Rubel filed the case with the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Ayesha Begum this morning. The magistrate will hear the case later, reports our correspondent quoting the plaintiff s lawyer Advocate Ekram Hossain. According to the case statement, Nur appeared on Facebook live on December 16 where he tried to instigate people, making derogatory comments about the government and several government institutions.
