The Court said that the article, prima facie, does not compromise the careers of the officers and does not put the lives of their family members in any danger.
The Indian government has amended its policy for central deputation of Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, in order to address the shortage of candidates for key positions in central agencies such as R&AW, IB, NIA, and the CBI. Previously, officers with a minimum of five years of service were eligible for induction in R&AW, IB, and NIA, but not the CBI. However, under the new policy, officers with the same amount of service can now join the CBI as well.
The government on Friday said in Lok Sabha that the Supreme Court has observed in a recent order that political background by itself has "not been an absolute bar" to appoint an otherwise suitable person as a judge.
