ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. On the front cover of Albuquerque slam poet Manuel González’s new book are three ways that the Duke City is identified.
One is in the title – “Duende de Burque.” Burque is a shortened, colloquial Spanish version of the city’s name.
At 3 p.m. today Manuel González gives a virtual reading from “Duende de Burque” and is in conversation with Valerie Martinez, director of history and literary arts at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. To register for the Zoom event go to bkwrks.com/burque.

Because of our large numbers in Pueblo County, what I keep saying to the state, is it only serves the state to provide more vaccines to Pueblo County, because probably 6/10 people that are vaccinated in Pueblo County, will be from communities of Colorado, said Theresa Trujillo with the Center for Health Progress (CHP).

New research suggests Spanish conquistadors butchered at least a dozen women and their children in an Aztec-allied town where the inhabitants sacrificed and ate a detachment of Spaniards they had captured months earlier.
