Subscriber only The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) has navigated 2020 with minimal disruption to its vital healthcare services despite the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic. According to RFDS yearly patient and aviation statistics, patient transfers across the state were on par with 2019, with 10,678 patients being flown to emergency or specialist care between January 1 and December 1, 2020. Forty of these patients were transferred under Covid-19 precautions in Queensland. RFDS Bundaberg crews flew 1,756 patients in the same period, with the top reasons for transfer being medical conditions related to the heart, kidney stones and broken legs.

A CENTRAL Queensland police officer has been recognised as the 2020 Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Queensland Hero for his dedication to the community.
Bede Little, Senior Constable of the Ilfracombe Police Station, was named the RFDS Local Hero for the Longreach region and was today announced as the statewide winner.
His work in the community extends much further than policing due to the remote nature of his location and the struggles experienced across the region due to drought.
On one occasion Mr Little helped the pilot of a small plane which stalled mid-air.
Fortunately for the person in the aircraft, he was able to assist until the RFDS arrived.
