Koala trackers searching for the animals on the Sunshine Coast have not reported spotting any in Noosa National Park this year.
Queensland Koala Crusaders is an organisation that seeks to work collaboratively with local government, conservation and community groups focusing on improving and protecting the lives of koalas in the wild.
Former vice president and current member of the organisation, Eileen Walder, has spent more than five years dedicating her time to protecting the Sunshine Coast koala population.
The spokesman said it was a âsad statisticâ that in the past year 865 koalas were taken into care at RSPCA Queenslandâs wildlife hospital.
âNearly 80 per cent of the koalas admitted were either hit by care or the victims of dog attacks,â he said. Katia was weighed less than 300 grams when she was found on the cold ground. Photo: Peter Wilson
One of the most recent patients was Katia, a little joey weighing less than 300 grams. She was found on the cold ground and her mother was nowhere to be found.
âFortunately she handled her time at the hospital well and was cleared by one of our anxious, but relieved vets,â the spokesman said.
