and good morning. welcome to today on a wednesday morning. i m matt lauer. i m meredith vieira. any incumbent coming up for re-election in november has to be worried after seeing the results of yesterday s primary. that s right. in pennsylvania, kentucky and arkansas, the results seemed to show that many americans are not satisfied with the status quo in washington. led by the defeat of 80-year-old senator arlen specter, he left the republican party, you ll remember, and became a democrat last year to try to keep his political career alive. while president obama did support him, he never went to pennsylvania to campaign on his behalf, and this morning some in specter s camp are pointing fingers at the white house for not doing enough to help. more on that and the rest of tuesday s election results coming up in just a couple of minutes. also ahead, the victim of a horrible crime in texas was just 8 when she was snatched from her own bed in the middle of the sni night.
