It burned 4,000 acres in napa county near san francisco. Officials say a car accident sparked the fire. Our affiliate kbor says residents are grabbing what they can. Reporter neighbors in this rural area very bracing themselves for the worst. It was on the ridge and were saying, okay its getting pretty close and ten minutes later its like right here. All of a sudden, they were, like, the winds are moving rapidly and its just we dont have very much contained and its just spreading so fast and you guys just need to leave. Reporter now, the fire threat forced cattle and horses to flee. According to cal fire, the wildfire may have been sparked by a car accident yesterday afternoon. You saw in the pictures, they were fighting the fire from the air, although of course those planes were grounded overnight. That is standard procedure. The planes generally only go up during daylight hours. They anticipate putting them back up as soon as the sun comes out but as i mentioned, winds calm overnight and just over the last few minutes starting to pick up again. Has anything burned just yet . Terrain and, of course, because of the drought its bone dry. Billowing smoke and crackling flames created an orange and black backdrop for tankers fighting the massive fire. A dc10 has been dropping retardant along with hundreds of firefighters who have been battling this hard to reach fire tearing across this rural section of northern california. Helicopters scooped up water one bucket at a time each holding 324 gallons. Emergency responders feared the fire would move quickly. And it did ballooning to thousands of acres in a matter of hours.
