The planes generally only go up during daylight hours. They anticipate putting them back up as soon as the sun comes out but as i mentioned, winds calm overnight and just over the last few minutes starting to pick up again. Has anything burned just yet . Sergeant lungers partner was in another patrol car. He fired at the pickup as it sped away. A third officer tried to revive Sergeant Lunger but he died at eden medical center. It started midafternoon yesterday then quickly expanded as it consumed dry brush. Mandatory evacuations are in effect for at least two communities. The wragg fire is burning southeast of the lake and west of the town of winters in both napa and yolo counties. Cal fire says 380 firefighters are working on it right now. Julie watts is in yolo county where firefighters are preparing to head back to the fireline. Reporter i mentioned when we got out her this morning, winds were calm. But over the past halfhour they have really picked up. This is where firefighters and emergency crews are gathering preparing to head back to the fire lines. Yesterday they faced unpredictable winds and difficult terrain and because of the drought its dry. Smoke and flames created a backdrop for tankers dropping fire retardants and hundreds of firefighters have been battling the hardtoreach fire in this Northern California rural area. 324 gallons of water were dropped at a time by helicopters. Emergency responders feared the fire would move quickly and it did ballooning to thousands of acres in a matter of hours. Billowing smoke and crackling flames created an orange and black backdrop for tankers fighting the massive fire. Several of the planes along with hundreds of firefighters are battling the hardtoreach fire tearing across this rural section of Northern California. Helicopters scooped up water one bucket at a time each holding 324 gallons. This has a potential to be a Major Incident based on the fire behavior right now. We are in the green there. Southbound 280 though at eastmore through daly city reports of a breakdown blocking two lanes. And so far 6,000 acres have been charred. Our camera atop mount vaca has been wavering because the winds have been increasing this morning at times up to 22mile perhour gusts even 25 in the last 15 minutes. Our air temperatures are in the 50s and 60s. And it looks like we are going to go up to 84 degrees in that Lake Berryessa area where that fire continues to burn. The winds will blow out of the west 10 to 20 Miles Per Hour and the overnight low would be 53 degrees. Right now around the peninsula winds to 11. East of the bay 14 in oakland, 13 in san ramon. We have 15mileperhour winds in concord this morning. And there we have a sustained wind up to 29 in the Fairfield Area. Napa at 7. But gusts up to 15. So we have a subtropical moisture leaving the bay area. We do have an enhanced marine layer right there. It is even producing a little bit of condensation in the form of drizzle this morning around the coast and into the bay. Its going to be breezy again today but not as windy as yesterday. And then we have High Pressure nestling in for the weekend with seasonal highs returning from friday through sunday but wait until you see the seven day forecast. The number of people seeking Unemployment Benefits plunged last week to the lowest level in nearly 42 years. The Labor Department says Weekly Applications for Unemployment Benefits fell to 255,000 the lowest since 1973. A close call for two officers in massachusetts after a driver nearly ran them over and they say the woman behind the wheel was texting. Surveillance video shows the two officers walking in the crosswalk when a white Ford Explorer nearly hit them. They say she was texting. Officers say they pulled her over. San jose police chief Larry Esquivel is retiring. He plans on leaving at the beginning of next year. Esquivel has been with the sjpd since 1984 when he joined as a reserve officer. He then worked his way up the ranks becoming the chief back in 2013. Esquivel faced a number of challenges during his tenure.
