but the question should be asked, who is the victim? a new chapter for the many accusers of bill cosby. the question is once again in the headlines. is this the slam dunk that vindicates cosby s accusers? it s in the 2005 case filed by andrea constand from temple university s athletic program. sealed court documents released after the report contain a startling admission. in a deposition cosby says in the 1970s he had prescriptions for the hypnotic sedative quaaludes. constand s lawyer asks when you got the quaaludes was it in your mind you were going to use these quaaludes for young women you wanted to have sex with? cosby responds, yes. question, did you ever give any of those young women the quaaludes without their knowledge. cosby s lawyer tells his client do not answer it. accusers who have stood their ground are voicing their relief and a sense of vindication. i was absolutely elated. i couldn t stop just screaming,
the vetinvestigation. 78-year-old bill cosby stumbling into the courtroom to face felony charges of aggravated indecent assault clearing a $1 million bail to return to his nearby home. prosecutors say that s where former temple university employee agreed to take pills and drink wine. then felt frozen and paralyzed as cosby allegedly performed sexual acts against her wishes. while no criminal charges were filed at the time, constant filed a civil suit in 2005 that was settled a year later. it was excerpts from a deposition taken from this suit that triggered the new criminal case. constant s attorney asking cosby about his purchase of quaaludes in the 70s a now banned drug. was it in your mind you were going to use these for young women you wanted to have sex with? cosby answering yes. reopening this case was not a
drugging and sexually abusing her at her home in philadelphia. she was an employee of temple university where cosby had graduated and later sat on the board of trustees. at the time, a local montgomery county district attorney declined to bring charges, citing insufficient evidence. and andrea constand sued cosby for damages in civil court, including in her file, testimony from 13 unidentified women who reported similar experiences with the comedian. cosby himself was deposed in the course of that proceeding, which was ultimately settled. this past july, almost a decade later, a judge unsealed some of those deposition documents for the first time. the documents dropped a bombshell. cosby had admitted to getting prescriptions for quaaludes, a sedative, in order to give them to women with whom he wanted to have sex. he says the drugs were taken with consent. the documents apparently prompted the montgomery county district attorney s office, now under new leadership, to take another look.
the andrea constand deposition was in part release. the public portion that dealt with one of the my clients, recounted how mr. cosby gave her quaaludes. put her in an altered conscious state and then had sex with her. she says it was nonconsensual. when asked mr. cosby, do you know if he consentsed. he said i don t know. she knows i did not consent and she says i was raped. so his claim that he gave anybody drugs is not supported by his own admissions in the constand litigation. but look, we have a courtroom. we have a forum where truth can be tried, where the rules apply fully and fairly to all sides, to you aof the ladies and mr. cosby. and my clients are looking forward to having their case heard by a jury of their peers. and they believe at the end of the day, that it will be proven
