NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke to the chief ministers of Punjab, Karnataka, Bihar and Uttarakhand on the COVID-19 situation in their states, official sources said.
Modi has been speaking to state chief ministers and lieutenant governors of union territories for the last few days to asses the pandemic situation there and offer suggestions.

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday announced phased opening of shops after a few of his cabinet colleagues raised the issue of resentment among shopkeepers over selective closure of shops amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
Chairing a virtual cabinet meeting, Singh ruled out a complete lockdown while stating that the restrictions currently in place in Punjab were more stringent than the lockdown conditions in many other states.

Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces as well as Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) announced on Wednesday the imposition of lockdowns during the Eidul Fitr holidays in light of the decisions taken by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) late last month.
The announcements come as the country crossed another milestone in the fight against coronavirus pandemic, administering Covid vaccine to more than 200,000 people in a single-day amid the ongoing third wave of the pandemic, driven by the UK strain of the virus.
