Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken up widening of Ganeshkhind road from Pune University junction to Sancheti hospital junction, from 36 metres to 45 metres, with Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) building a two-storey bridge with elevated metro rail above and a flyover below it.
Pune-based NGO Parisar, along with activists Ameet Singh and Hema Chari, had filed a PIL in the Bombay High Court to stop the chopping of 192 trees on Ganeshkhind road.
Pune Municipal Corporation has planned to chop down over 6,000 trees alongside Mula and Mutha river that passes through the city to make way for the project.
