PUNE: A 58-year-old Brigadier-rank Army officer allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a moving train at the Pune railway station on Sunday, railway police said.
The deceased, a male officer, was currently serving at the city-based Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), they said. The victim came to the railway station with his driver. Leaving the driver outside, he went to platform number 3 and jumped before the Udyan Express around 12.15 pm and died, Superintendent of Police (GRP), Sadanand Wayse-Patil, said.
No suicide note was recovered from him, he said. As per the CCTV footage, the Army officer was seen lingering on platform 3 and even tried to jump before the Chennai Express, but could not succeed, he said. Pune Municipal Corporation
PUNE: A total 45 officials have shown interest in becoming the secretary of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
The PMC had issued advertisement for the post after around 11 years following retirement of the previous secretary. The civic administration has received applications from PMC officials as well as those working in various state government offices. The PMC will finalise the selection next month.
The office of secretary is important for the coordination between the elected members and civic department. “The municipal secretary office does most of the important documentation works, along with official communication. So, it gathers significance,” a senior PMC official said.
Farmers at the recent meeting
PUNE: Landowners in the six new villages, covering 2,800 hectares, in Purandar tehsil where the district administration has planned the Pune airport project have held a series of meetings over the last few days to strongly oppose any attempt to take away their land for the project.
This situation does not augur well for the project considering that the administration has had to deal with a four-year protest by landowners at the earlier site covering seven villages of Pargaon, Udachiwadi, Munjwadi, Ekhatpuri, Khanauri,Vanpuri and Kumbharvan.
The new site now covers the six villages of Mavadi, Pimpri, Rajuri, Naygaon, Rise-Pise and Pandeshwar.
