Ranchi: The state government is working on a new Jharkhand Ethanol Production and Promotion Policy (JEPP) 2021 to lay the groundwork for commissioning biofuel manufacturing units in the state. On Tuesday, the department of industries held its first meeting with stakeholders at a city hotel here to seek their suggestions in making the policy document forward-looking and investor-friendly. Secretary (industries) Puja Singhal presided over the stakeholders’ meet, which was attended by representatives of 24 companies from Jharkhand and neighbouring states. Ethanol is distilled from sugarcane, molasses, starch of rice, maze and agro-waste. While Jharkhand does not have appreciable cultivation of sugarcane and molasses, entrepreneurs looking to invest here will have to primarily procure their raw material from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and other states.

Ranchi: The state government is banking on formulation of new policies and setting up new infrastructure for boosting Jharkhand’s manufacturing and industrial sector in the coming weeks. While the final draft of the new Jharkhand Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (JIPP) is due to be tabled before the state cabinet for its approval, the state industries department is currently formulating four new sector-specific policies in an attempt to draw investments. “Consultations with stakeholders, which include trade and commerce bodies and members from the MSME and heavy industries fraternities, have been completed. We are due to put up the JIPP before the cabinet very soon for its approval,” said a senior officer in the department on anonymity.

Ranchi: Reviving the state’s 634 sick MSME units and setting up export promotion committees at the state and district levels will be the high priority areas of Jharkhand industries department in the new financial year, state industries secretary Puja Singhal, who presided over the second stakeholders’ meeting over the new Jharkhand Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (JIPP), 2021 on Monday, said. “As per data available with the department, there are 634 MSME units which are ailing due to a number of issues, such lack of work order, its inability to repay bank loans and incurring losses due to the Covid-induced lockdown.
