Hazaribag: North Chottanagpur DIG A V Homkar on Saturday said the first year MBBS student, whose body was found from Patratu dam in Ramgarh with her hands and legs tied, committed suicide out of depression.
The deceased, identified as Puja Bharti, was a student of Hazaribag Medical College and Hospital and hailed from Godda district. A special investigation team comprising police from Hazaribag and Ramgarh was formed to solve the case.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday in Hazaribag, Homkar said, “After a through probe from all angles, we have concluded that the girl was in depression and committed suicide after proper planning. She tied her hands and legs on her own with nylon ropes before ending her life in Patratu dam.”
Dumka: Scores of people assembled at Sajid Smarak in Godda on Wednesday when the body of 22-year-old Puja Bharti, a student of Hazaribag medical college and hospital who was found dead with her hands and legs tied in Patratu Dam, arrived in the morning. While people from all walks of life staged a dharna before the cremation of the body, BJP cashed in on the incident and held an ‘akrosh march’ from the protest site to the district collectorate to protest growing instances of crime against women.
Leading the ‘akrosh march’, BJP’s Godda MLA Amit Mandal said, “The brutal murder is not an isolated instance of crime against women during the last one year of the Mahagathbandhan government. Lives of women have turned into nightmares. The people of Jharkhand have lost faith in the government and it is evident from the recent protest against chief minister Hemant Soren in Ranchi.”
